The STRANGE Genie+ Pricing Situation in Disney World

Genie+ has been around Disney World for a while now, and that means we’ve gotten to know it pretty well.

Galaxy’s Edge

It’s not an easy feat — there are rules you have to remember, times you need to pay attention to, and portable chargers you probably need to pack for your phone. But, we’ve noticed something kind of odd about the way certain Genie+ offerings are priced, and you might want to know about it before your next trip.

The newest ride in Disney World is finally open — TRON Lightcycle / Run is welcoming people into the Grid, and folks have been pretty darn eager to ride — can you blame them?! Currently, there are only two ways to ride TRON: a virtual queue, and buying an Individual Lightning Lane through Genie+. But, the VQ can fill up pretty quickly, and the Lightning Lanes can sell out more often than not.

TRON Lightcycle / Run is open!

Since the ride is so popular, you would probably think that it’s the most expensive Individual Lightning Lane ride in the parks, but from what we’ve seen — that hasn’t exactly been the case. In addition to TRON, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Flight of Passage, and Rise of the Resistance are all Individual Lightning Lanes as well — meaning you’ll pay per ride if you want to skip the line.

Over the past few months, we’ve typically seen the prices range from $10-$25, but of course, that varies by ride, park, and date. Being that TRON is new, most folks would expect this Lightning Lane to really put a dent in their wallets — and while the cost is still no small potatoes, it’s also not the biggest potatoes.

TRON Lightcycle / Run

And oddly enough, the second-newest ride in Disney World — Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind — isn’t the most expensive either! We typically see that one priced around $15 per person, per ride. So, what is the most expensive Individual Lightning Lane?

Cosmic Rewind

The ride with the highest price we’ve seen so far is (you’ve probably already guessed by now…) Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios! Yep, you read that right — even though it opened in December 2019, Rise still takes the cake for the highest price we’ve seen at $25 per person, per ride.

Rise of the Resistance

The highest we’ve seen TRON priced at has been $20 per person — even though it’s newer. So, just because a ride is new, doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll be the most expensive and we’re all about saving dough at Disney World.

What is interesting, though, is that Rise of the Resistance is the only ride out of the highest-priced Individual Lightning Lanes that operates with a standby line. Right now, both Cosmic Rewind and TRON are only operating with virtual queues. It’s possible that folks are willing to pay more because they don’t want to wait in the standby line, which they don’t have to worry about with the other rides.

Rise of the Resistance

Ultimately, only you can decide if you want to shell out the extra dough for these rides, but hopefully, now you have a better idea of what you’ll need to budget.

We’re always looking out for ways to help you save and prepare for your next Disney World trip, so stay tuned to DFB for more!
