Why You Should Rent an RV For Your Next Road Trip to Disney World

Disney World can be VERY expensive, so you probably want to cut some costs wherever you can, right?

Luckily, there are a lot of ways to do that! You can save on your hotel room, your airfare, your park tickets, and even food. One of the biggest ways to save money is by picking somewhere a bit less expensive for you to stay during your trip. So, we’re going to talk about why renting an RV could be a great option for your next Disney World vacation!

Camping at Disney World

If you don’t know, you can actually bring an RV to Disney World! Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campgrounds has a ton of spaces for RVs, campers, and more. If you’re into camping, this could totally be a great option for you — you would get the camping experience, and the Disney World experience!

Fort Wilderness is a Disney Resort, so it will give you access to what a lot of other resort guests have access to — pools, nearby dining options, Early Theme Park Entry, and more.

There are also extra recreation activities here, like archery, biking, horseback riding, fishing, and more. You could spend a whole day just taking part in these activities around the campgrounds!

The Cost

The cost of camping at Disney World is pretty low compared to the other resorts. It’s a little over $142 per night for a full hook-up campsite, but there are other preferred and premium sites available for a higher price. None of them are above $200 per night, though. These were the rates we found when looking at a trip in May of 2023 (know that the prices can vary based on the time of travel!).

Full hook-up campsites have room for an RV and a tent, so they technically sleep 10 adults, according to Disney!

Now, you need an RV. If you already have an RV, then great — you’re good to go! But, if you don’t, you can rent one. According to GoRVRentals.com it costs $300 per night to rent a Class A Motorhome (which is your typical looking giant RV). But, you can also get Large Motorhome rentals that sleep 7 people for around $150 per night (according to Cruise America).

If you add this up, the first RV option would be under $450 per night, while the second would be under $300 per night. However, your costs could be even lower depending on where you rent from and what time of year it is. This might sound like a lot of money per night still, but compared to a lot of the other Disney World hotels, it’s a decently good deal for being able to sleep 10 people!

If you had two families in your group or several adults, splitting that cost would bring the cost down even lower, making it a lot cheaper than what you would pay for a large room, multiple rooms, or a suite in order to fit your party size.

The Benefit

So, why would you choose this over a hotel room? Well, there are a few reasons. First of all, if you enjoy camping and Disney World, then this is a match made in heaven! It also could be a great introduction to camping for people who have never done it before, since you’re not, you know, in the middle of the deep wilderness or anything!

But, you might see some wildlife!

Another great reason is that this gives you some flexibility. If you have your car with you, you can use it to drive to the parks or around the Orlando area to get groceries and check out other attractions.

And, if you want a road trip and don’t want to pay for expensive airfare, this is a great option, too! Or, if you want to go to Disney World for an extended amount of time (like 2 weeks to a month), this is probably a more cost efficient way to do it.

Fort Wilderness

Bringing an RV to Fort Wilderness still gives you those exclusive benefits of being an on-property guest at Disney World as well. You’re close to Magic Kingdom, you have access to free transportation, you can get into the parks early, and you can enjoy the nearby amenities.

And, for some added fun that you can’t find in other places around Disney World, the Fort Wilderness campgrounds get super festive around the holidays! People decorate their campsites for Halloween and Christmas, and some people go ALL OUT.

You can easily walk around and check them all out, or you can rent a golf cart right there at Fort Wilderness. The pricing ranges from $63-$79 per day.
