REVIEW: If Eating Shrimp with Your Hands in Magic Kingdom Is Wrong, We Don’t Wanna Be Right

We like to think we know a thing or two about Disney World food.

Columbia Harbour House

We’ve dined our way around the EPCOT Food & Wine Festival and brought you our reviews on every single item, and chances are there are few Disney World eats we haven’t had! So when we heard there was a NEW dish over at Columbia Harbour House in Magic Kingdom, we knew we had to check it out and give it a review!

There might be a lobster shortage in Disney World, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have a good old-fashioned seafood boil — and that’s exactly what’s happening over at Columbia Harbour House in Magic Kingdom! The New England Shrimp Boil is NEW and features shrimp, potatoes, corn, and andouille sausage cooked in spiced broth and served with warm Parker House Rolls.

It sounded like the perfect hearty dish for a day of running all around Magic Kingdom, so how did it taste?

NEW item at Columbia Harbour House!

Ummmm we may have just found a new favorite dish in Magic Kingdom?! The New England Shrimp Boil was flavorful, and had quite a bit going on in the best way possible. The potatoes were tender, lightly salted, and they had a bit of a kick from the spiced broth they had been soaking in. Sometimes boiled potatoes can get a little gummy and starchy, but these stayed nice and firm.

We did find the corn to be a bit lacking flavor, despite also being soaked in the spiced broth. It was also slightly overcooked and a bit mushy — maybe from sitting in liquid for too long. We wish there had been some additional spices on the corn instead of broth offering most of the flavor here.

The rolls weren’t served warm, and ours were on the stale side. They improved significantly when dunked in the spiced broth, though!

A LOT of food

We were shocked by how good the shrimp was — and how much of it we got! There were 7 huge shrimp in our bowl. They are peel-and-eat, so you do have to do a little work here, but the end game is absolutely worth it. The shrimp were juicy, not too tough, and were perfectly seasoned thanks to that spiced broth.

If you’re a fan of smoked meats and spice, chances are you probably love andouille sausage — and we definitely understand why. At first, this just tastes like your average smoked sausage, but then the spice kicks in and adds a great smoky heat that pairs really well with the rest of the ingredients. At $15.99, this is on the pricier side for a quick lunch or dinner option, but you really do get a TON of food here (7 shrimps people!!!), and seafood at that.

You can probably skip the New England Shrimp Boil if you’re not a seafood person, or don’t want to get your hands messy by peeling shrimp — but if seafood is calling your name, you should give this new item a shot.
