Parts of EPCOT look a bit like a maze right now, with a LOT of walls up to hide construction sites. This park is in the middle of a major (we’re talking years-long) transformation, which has already brought us 2 new rides, a few new restaurants, and an extension of the France pavilion in World Showcase. Now, we’ve got an update about another EPCOT project that’s currently in the works!
Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana is a walk-through attraction coming to the World Nature section of EPCOT. This is the big construction site that you’ll see right behind Spaceship Earth. We’ve seen some concept art for this attraction, and we’ve been tracking the project’s progress, which you can see from the EPCOT Monorail. But now Disney has released NEW concept art!
Imagineer Zach Riddley shared some new concept art and details for Journey of Water — Inspired by Moana on his Instagram page. Previously, Disney announced that this attraction will teach guests about the water cycle and how important it is to our lives. Riddley explained a bit more about how this will happen, using a graphic that he said represents the style that “will be used throughout the attraction.”
This map of the water cycle was “inspired by the design and visual language” of Moana. Riddley also shared that the EPCOT team “created many original pieces that focus on the dynamic movement of water as it travels around the experience.” Pictures like the one above will be used to “guide guests through the cycle of water in fun and engaging ways to tell our story of the vital link we share with water across our planet, and inspire the important role we all share in preserving this life-giving and life-sustaining precious resource.”
It sounds like guests will walk through the attraction to see rock formations, fountains, and other water features, and along the way, they’ll also see graphics that explain the water cycle.
Right now, the space for this attraction is very busy, with construction crews hard at work. We can see rock formations starting to take place already!
In other concept art that Disney shared this year, we got a more complete look at the attraction. There seem to be several shady and covered areas, with both trees and overhangs along the pathway. And you can spot a few different water features, such as fountains, waterfalls, and even jumping water.
Disney hasn’t shared an opening date or timeframe for this attraction yet. We’ll continue to watch for more updates from Disney, so stay tuned with DFB for more of the latest news!
