Today is a very special day for Disney, do you know why?!
It’s the 10th anniversary of Cars Land at Disneyland Resort! Yep, the iconic Radiator Springs opened up back on June 15th, 2012 at Disney California Adventure park. So, get ready to say Ka-chow, because we’re breaking down how you can celebrate the big anniversary in Cars Land!
First, let’s talk about some of the NEW stuff you can do! As part of the 10th anniversary, Radiator Springs’ very own Guido is making his outdoor debut in Cars Land — he’ll be out in front of Luigi’s Casa Della Tires for you to take photos with!
There is also a new premium popcorn bucket available designed to look like Tow Mater! How fun is this bucket? You can buy it over at Flo’s V8 Cafe, Fillmore’s Taste-In, and the Cozy Cone Motel while supplies last. Availability may vary throughout the summer.
You can also find some new merchandise for the anniversary! There are new Cars Land 10th Anniversary Lightning McQueen and Tow Mater limited edition pins at Sarge’s Surplus Hut and Ramone’s House of Body Art. You can also visit these spots for other merchandise, toys, and apparel celebrating Cars Land and car culture.
Disney also shared about other ways to celebrate the anniversary in Cars Land, like by taking a ride on the Radiator Springs Racers or by going for a spin on Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters! Take a turn around the dance floor of Luigi’s, which was actually the first Disney attraction in the United States with this trackless ride system.
Another great way to celebrate is by meeting characters like Lightning McQueen and Mater, who are parked in front of the Cozy Cone Motel.
Speaking of the Cozy Cone Motel, head on over to try out one of the “i-cone-ic” sweet and savory treats from the five walk-up windows shaped like orange traffic cones. From churros to that awesome Chili Cone Queso, there’s a little something for everyone.
Still hungry? Grab a milkshake and a meal at Flo’s V8 Cafe! This place is modeled after the roadside restaurants along the original Route 66 and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Eat a Ka-Cheeseburger or Flo’s Famous Fried Chicken, then sip on a Flo’s Classic vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry milkshake topped with “road gravel” cookie crumbles for dessert. And remember, you can use Mobile Ordering here!
If you want to take in some beautiful sights, take a walk down the Route 66-inspired road in Cars Land where you can see the backdrop of Ornament Valley in the distance. You can also see the six mountain peaks of Cadillac Range, which represent Cadillac tail fins from 1957 to 1962. Perfect for car lovers!
Another awesome option is to hang out in Cars Land during sunset, where you’ll hear the “Sh-boom” music moment begins and see 16 neon signs light up the night sky! This is a beautiful nod to the neon signs of 1950s Americana and Route 66.
But, that’s not all — you don’t even have to visit Disneyland to celebrate the anniversary! You can take part in the festivities at home by building your own miniature version of Cars Land out of paper. The #DisneyPaperParks set of Cars Land was designed by Walt Disney Imagineering and features a Radiator Springs playset. You can follow the instructions on the printable, 3D activity sheets to create Cars Land just by using some scissors, glue, and folding along lines in specific directions.
Disney says that for best results, they recommend printing the activity sheets at their actual size, not scaling them to fit the page. They also recommend adults supervising or helping little ones during this activity!
