Is the Monte Cristo DISAPPEARING from Disney World? We Investigate

We’ve had some pretty amazing things to eat in Disney World over the years.

Between meals at signature restaurants, snacks that knocked our socks off, and random food items that were shockingly delicious…we’ve got a well-curated list of favorites. One item that we really loved recently was the Monte Cristo at Magic Kingdom’s Plaza Restaurant, but now we may have to bid it farewell!

A huge thanks to our reader @Jim.Disney (Instagram) for alerting us to this! When we stopped by Plaza Restaurant today, we were informed that the sandwich has been removed from the menu due to a “turkey shortage.”

It first arrived here for the 50th Anniversary of Disney World back in October, and it was an instant hit for us — all that deep-fried, savory deliciousness was irresistible!

But now, it has been removed from the menu placard outside of the restaurant and it no longer appears on the online menu.

On May 30th, 2022, we were told that they had a limited number left and that guests could ask for it specifically while they still have a few. But, it may be gone altogether by the next time you visit.

We’ll continue to check the menu and see if it returns, but the Cast Members weren’t exactly hopeful that it would. One informed us that they believe this will be it for the beloved sandwich. One Cast Member said that this sandwich is done and will not be returning. According to that Cast Member, this was all sort-of part of the plan, to eventually replace the Monte Cristo with something else and sort-of split its time at the 50th Anniversary with another item.

It looks like we’ll have to hop on a plane to California to order this meal at Disneyland instead!
