Things are changing at the House of Mouse.
For the past several weeks, Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill (now law) and Disney’s responses to it have garnered a great amount of attention in the news. From Disney’s initial response to its most recent statement on the Bill’s passage into law, there has been a great amount of debate and controversy surrounding the law and Disney’s response to it. Now, looking to the future of Disney’s official responses to major events, Disney has decided to hire an individual with experience in the political field to take the helm as the Company’s lead spokesperson.
According to a press release posted on the Walt Disney Company website Kristina Schake has been named as Executive Vice President, Global Communications, effective immediately. Schake will be responsible for Disney’s “worldwide communications strategy and operations” and she will serve as the Company’s lead spokesperson.
Schake has three decades of experience working in government, media, business, entertainment, and technology. In her most recent position, Schake was appointed by U.S. President Joe Biden to “lead the nationwide COVID-19 vaccine education campaign.”
She has also served as Global Communications Director for Instagram, was the Deputy Communications Director for Hillary Clinton‘s 2016 presidential campaign, and was the Special Assistant to the President and Communications Director to the First Lady under the Obama administration.
She also served as a senior communications strategist for First Lady Maria Shriver in California, and she co-founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
Disney’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Geoff Morrell has said, “Her experience in the public and private sectors, in political and corporate campaigns, make her ideally suited for this important role and to help me integrate communications with government relations, public policy, and corporate social responsibility into a new Corporate Affairs team.”
Morrell went on to say, “Together with the exceptional professionals at Disney, we will help the world’s greatest storytelling company engage even more effectively with our many stakeholders around the world.”
Schake shared that she is “excited to lead the company’s global communications work at this pivotal moment of growth and transformation.”
We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more details about Schake’s role in the Company or other changes being made by Disney. Check back with us for all the latest updates.
